The middle school youth of St. Mary of the Woods Parish in Whitesville were not old enough to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Indianapolis this past November, but that did not stop them from having a meaningful experience together.

As the Diocese of Owensboro confronts the serious shortfall in funding for its lay employees’ pension fund, Bishop William F. Therese Watson, a 12th-grade homeschool youth who belongs to St. Francis de Sales Parish in Paducah, was one of the teens selected to be present for the live, digital encounter with Pope Leo XIV during the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis in November 2025.
