Xavier Society celebrates 125 years of service

BY WKC STAFF

On Dec. 13, 2025, Fr. Jamie Dennis and 36 of his parishioners from St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Sorgho participated in a significant anniversary with the Xavier Society for the Blind in New York City.

That day, on the feast of St. Lucy, they gathered at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with clients and other friends of the Xavier Society to celebrate Mass with Cardinal Timothy Dolan to celebrate the society’s 125th anniversary. The Xavier Society provides free spiritual and inspirational books in braille, audio, and large print worldwide.

Fr. Dennis, who is blind, travels to New York City every Dec. 13 to celebrate the annual St. Lucy Mass with the Xavier Society.
