On Sept. 24, 67 married couples gather at St. Stephen Cathedral for the annual Marriage Celebration Mass with Bishop William F. Medley. John and Mary Morris of St. Mary of the Woods Parish in Whitesville were the longest-married couple in attendance this year, having been married for 71 years.

Adding up the cumulative number of years married among the couples present, Bishop Medley said it totaled 3,159 years.

The Mass was hosted by the Diocese of Owensboro’s Office of Marriage and Family Life. This office provides a wide range of Catholic programs and initiatives to help marriages and families thrive throughout western Kentucky. These include marriage preparation, marriage and family enrichment, counseling services, natural family planning/fertility awareness method instruction, and the Clean Heart Initiative, which is dedicated to helping people break free from pornography.
