Holy Name student shines the light of hope for the jubilee

BY HOLY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC SCHOOL

In anticipation of Jubilee of Hope 2025, Fr. Richard Meredith, pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Henderson, commissioned a young, up-and-coming artist, Maverick Hillyard, to create the artwork for a St. Lucy prayer card.

Hillyard is a sixth grade student and parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School/Parish. He has demonstrated an eye and talent for the arts in the past and was thrilled to be asked to assist on this project. Fr. Meredith adapted the prayer for the card and gave Hillyard basic information as to St. Lucy’s life and death.

Hillyard set to work researching the saint and, based on his studies, formulated a plan of action.  The history that St. Lucy’s eyes were gouged prior to execution combined with the jubilee year of pilgrimage moved Hillyard to illustrate eyes in the hands of St. Lucy and a shell representing pilgrimage in his creation.  The final product is a moving image and excellent addition to the prayer card which will be used throughout the Jubilee 2025.
