Quilting Friends return to help support Ursuline Sisters

BY MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH STAFF

From March 10-13, the Quilting Friends returned to Maple Mount. They are a group of women who either bring quilt tops they are working on, or they use the ample amount of donated fabric on hand to make new quilt tops. The quilt tops will either be hand quilted for the monthly Mount Quilt Club drawings, or machine quilted to use for Quilt Bingo on Sept. 8, 2024. Both events serve to support the mission of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph. Sr. Amelia Stenger, OSU, coordinated the quilting session again this year, filling Maple Hall with donated fabric for the quilters to choose their own patterns.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald, and her sister Sally Fitzgerald, came from Bowling Green, Ky., to participate in Quilting Friends. Their late mother was a longtime quilter at the Mount.

“Elizabeth is the queen of the little pieces,” Sr. Amelia said. “She takes all of our scraps and pieces them together. Sally can take anything and make something out of it.”

“You never know how it will come out until you sew it,” Elizabeth said.
