Knights of Columbus host Mass and luncheon for widows

On April 2, 2022, the Knights of Columbus at Holy Spirit Parish and their wives hosted a Mass and luncheon for the widowed parishioners of Holy Spirit and St. Joseph Parishes in Bowling Green. The widows each received a corsage of pink rosebuds and were escorted into Mass by the Knights. Fr. Randy Howard presided over the Mass and offered a homily in which he discussed the mystery of God’s selection of the time each of us completes our tasks on earth, acknowledging that each widow, while mourning the loss of her husband, has work to do for God in her remaining lifetime. Bill and Erin Rankin provided the music for the Mass.
The widows then proceeded to Spirit Hall where photos were displayed of the widows and their deceased spouses and the tables were decorated with pink and peach peony centerpieces.
The widows were seated at tables with Knights and their wives who interviewed the widows and then introduced them to the entire group. A lunch of antipasto and fruit skewers, chicken and wild rice soup, tossed salad, lasagna and raspberry mousse was served, along with tea and wine. Knight Michael Byrne served as emcee for the event and the hall filled with laughter and conversation. Members of the current Confirmation preparation class worked hard serving the food and bussing the tables.

Each widow received a small flower vase, a wooden picture holder made by Michael Byrne, and beaded bracelets with crosses and miraculous medals made by Amanda Villarreal and Katharyn Byrne.
The event was attended by 44 widows and 56 Knights and wives. A similar event was held in 2019 and many of the ladies were delighted to be out in a social setting again with the opportunity to see old friends and make some new ones. Transportation was provided when needed by the Knights.
