Holy Spirit Parish blessed with 19 new baptized members of Burmese community in Bowling Green

BY FR. MARTIN MA NA LING, SPECIAL TO THE WESTERN KENTUCKY CATHOLIC

Oct. 15, 2022 was a blessing for us because Holy Spirit Parish in Bowling Green received 19 new members, including infants, children, and adults. We congratulate them.

They were well-prepared for the sacrament of Baptism both in Burmese and their own dialect. A parish leader, Mrs. Ma Mo of their community, translated what I taught in Burmese because some parishioners do not understand Burmese or English, instead speaking one of the other dialects of Myanmar. After their preparation was completed, I knew that they were ready to be baptized.

A lot of people from different tribes of Myanmar are coming together and coming back to the Church after COVID-19. Amazingly, among the 19 members baptized, this includes three whole families. It is God’s blessing that the whole family receives Christ in the Church like the Philippian jailer and his whole family was baptized by Paul (Acts 16:32-33).

We had nine members baptized earlier in October. In the coming month, I am going to prepare the adults for receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and the Eucharist.
